Network/Sites down!

As of midnight, July 16th, 2011, our network is down. All the servers and all the sites, from storiesonline.net and finestories.com to other sites are all down.

I don’t know why. I’m trying to reach the hosting facilities phone, but I’m getting no answer.

To make things worse, I’m out of town on business and the flight will be about 7 hours.

It’s a very frustrating situation.

Sorry for the inconvenience everyone. Hopefully, I get to the root of the problem soon enough.

Update 2011-07-16 12:20pm: All services have been restored. Turned out to be a power issue with the hosting facility.

It’s a pain but big problems always happen when they are the most inconvenient.

Hopefully it is just a simple plug fallen out and SOL is back soon.

I noticed that on Tracert that both sites are not getting by an Ottowa based ISP…

This outage is a reminder for me, of how much fun and joy your site provides me (and many others, I am sure). “You don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone . . .”

Hey Lazeez, Thanks for the update. i have been trying to connect to storiesonline for the next book of a series i was reading online today i was unable to connect to storiesonline so was really worried. Though i can get the book from other sites but i am habituated to Storiesonline so I hope this problem at the hosting site is rectified. Good luck

I started to go crazy right after midnight when the story I was reading would not connect with the next chapter. I was up at 7 and have been trying off and on since then. Finally found your blog and w will just wait it out. Thanks for sharing.

“Wah I can’t get to the stories, I want my money back…” LOL OK, now that is out of the way. As a system admin, I can sympathize that this kind of thing likes to happen when you are out of town.

If they keep us from Lazlo’s “Service Society” for long, I’m sure that his many fans will join me and you at the ISP’s NOC or management offices as needed, for a head-thumping party.

If you mean the Telecom Ottawa (AKA Atria Networks (AKA Rogers)) one, it won’t resolve further than that even if the server is up.

Sounds like it is time for a new hosting service… strongly recommend linode.com – have been with them for 7 years and *never* had an issue that wasn’t something I did …

It means just that they have been lucky so far. Or do they run full offsite backup of all their servers? Having an accident with the power supply could happen to the best of them. I’ve been working in phone stations and I’ve seen what happens when you drop a spanner on the rails of the emergency battery backup (the same cells they used in submarines, at least here in Sweden). In one live 48V power supply that we were adding some wiring to, there were some yellow splotches on one of the rails. The guy that had been there before us forgot to remove his wedding ring.

I like reading westerns, and have a har dtime finding them…Anywhere.

Western is a genre, and with a premier membership, genres are searchable in the categories page.
