Phasing out support for externally linked stories

We’ve had support for externally linked stories since the start of the site. However, the feature wasn’t exactly popular and generally led to confusion and frustration with the readers and misuse and abuse by some authors.

I’ve decided to phase out support for externally linked stories. As of today, the ‘New External Story’ button in the site’s submission wizard is gone.

[Update: 2010-04-15]: Transition is now complete. There are no more externally linked stories on the site.

If someone has an external site, let them maintain it. Banzai Ben uses that feature & I like his sories.

No he doesn’t. Anyway, the feature is cancelled. Anybody that wants their stories to show up on storiesonline, then they must post them on the site.

Congratulations! A very wise move. Now I suggest the removal of unfinished, incomplete, and abandoned stories. Or some form of “Notice of Intent.”

Is that really a good idea Fuzzywuzzy? Granted, incomplete stories can be annoying (and yes, I am guilty of that sin) but some incomplete stories are longer than a lot of finished ones on this site. Just because it’s incomplete does not make it a bad story, indeed, due to the nature of erotic writing, a concrete ending is not always necessary as sometimes it’s nice to have a story with possibilities left open.

Also, if you start down that road, what’s next? Stories with poor grammar and spelling being removed? Followed by stories that some find offensive?

I can see why you want to limit the support to other sites. You do an outstanding job here, and no author in their right mind should create a problem with your new policy.

I agree with Pixie. You mark abandond stories well enouth that anyone who looks just doesn’t have to read them.

confusion in users? maybe some poor sites linked this way?

however, i have seen some great single author sites that i would not have found any other way.

sites with navigation that makes sense for their work.

abuse and misuse by auhors seems serious…

what are the problems?

Authors may still choose to post their stories to their own websites as well under Lazeez’s policy. Some authors, such as cmsix and Monbade, do this already and put the link to their personal sites in their profile or in their stories.

I have found external stories to be a pain in the neck and am happy that they will no longer be supported.

G’Day, I have just finished “Havenwood”by “Dustbuster23″(?).

There is no way to contact the author.

This, with major editorial assistance! is a good story.

The narrative and dialogue are lacking any separate areas, they follow each other on the same line with no indication of which is which.

The spelling is unbelievably atrocious.

The story could be a very good one if the author could be persuaded to contact a good editor.

What can be done?

Please?
