Storiesonline is down (updated)

8:00 PM EDT: Finally! The site is back online.

6:20 PM EDT: Still down

Update

I just received an update on the issue. The story has changed. Now they’re saying that a truck hit some pole in town and brought down the fibre optic cable. For some reason the data centre’s redundant connection didn’t transfer to the other lines, and no explanation why.

I’ve been now told that it may be till 10:00 pm at the earliest, if not, till tomorrow.

Damn!!!

1:30 PM EDT: Still down.

A construction crew managed to cut the fibre cables servicing a lot of Ottawa’s down town, including our internet connection. They’re working on fixing it. The estimate no less than 6 hours to go back up.

12:25 PM EDT: Still down

As of this posting (Tuesday, April 24th, 2006, at 11:50 am EDT), storiesonline has been down for about an hour. This is due to a failure in the backbone network of Rogers/GT here in the capital region in Canada.

The site’s servers are up and running and everything is working as it should on our end, but the server’s connection to the internet is broken. Nothing we can do but wait.

No news on when things will get corrected.

Bastards!

Lazeez, I hope your provider is offering you a substantial credit with having to be beaten about the head and shoulders. An outage of that length borders right on the unacceptable.

  6. Lazeez Says:

There will be compensation. I’m paying an arm an a leg for hosting service with multiple, redundant internet links. The stupid data centre is supposed to be on a ring, so that any line down wouldn’t affect the site. We’ve had individual link outages before now, but this is the first time that that whole centre is down.

Maybe now would be a good time to consider mirroring the site from a couple other locations. :)

    And we’re back!

Is it just me or is SOL down again? I haven’t been able to access the site since yesterday (monday 11:00pm CET).

I Checked the worldliteraturecompany.net Demo Page and it seems to work.

the last couple of days I havnt been able to log into storiesonline. I can go to site preview and get to the stories from there but when I click log in the log in page never finishes loading. I never had this problem before and if its on my end I havnt a clue where to look. Any advice would be helpful

    @LovnMaster

It’s probably the stylesheet failing to load.

When you’re in the login page and it doesn’t finish loading, stop the browser, then hold down the shift key on your keyboard and click the reload button a couple of times, that should clear the issue.

Lazee that worked thanks a million. You have a great place here. I know of site that have far more issues than this one and do not even admit to needing change. Myself I could never even get something like this off of the ground so I will continue to enjoy the scenery and not comment on the driving. All in all its a great place and I miss it terribly when I cant get on. Thanks for all your effort and thanks again for the help.
